Memphis, Tenn. (December 17, 2012) – Lexus Phillips, a senior at Central High School, has been named a C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars Award winner.
Phillips is one of seven students in the Greater Memphis area who received this week’s award for English & Literature. C Spire Wireless will recognize
more than 160 students during the 2012-2013 school year. Phillips and other weekly winners will be honored at an awards luncheon at the Hilton Memphis on
Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Phillips is a strong critical thinker and writer, holds a 4.32 weighted grade point average and scored 28 on the ACT with a 31 on the English portion of
the test. In the classroom, Phillips consistently elevates class discussions and challenges her peers with her knowledge. She has excellent verbal and
written communication skills and currently ranks among the top five per cent of her senior class. Phillips successfully completed AP English Language and
AP World History. She is enrolled in three AP classes this year including AP English Literature.
A three-year recipient of the Memphis City Schools’ William H. Sweet Award, Phillips earned membership in the National Honor Society. She is a three-year
member of the Student Council and serves on its Executive Board as Commissioner of Student Activities and Assemblies and also is a member of the Mock Trial
Team and International Club.
The C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars program was conceived to identify and recognize high school students for excellence in academics, school leadership
and community service. Now in its 7th year, the C Spire Academic All-Stars Awards are presented weekly for 28 weeks during the academic year from
nominations submitted by school administrators.
Judges include educators from Rhodes College, The University of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College and Christian Brothers University. Each Sunday during the
year, C Spire Academic All-Stars are announced in The Commercial Appeal.
